Post Michael Aye: Peregrine
Peregrine by Michael Aye

Peregrine is the fifth in the Fighting Anthonys series by Michael Aye. I have posted here on all the previous novels and have a few comments about this one too. Firstly, the story line in this one is more complex than previous ones with some surprising twists. The author’s efforts seem to be evolving as the series progresses. There is plenty of action but time for some interesting character developments. I still think that my favorite character is uncle Dagan, who seems to sense the future like a good ship’s master senses the upcoming weather.

In between boat action, shore attack, ambush, and fleet combat, there is a an interesting POW exchange. The close friendships between the colonials and the British are very evident… and personified by Captain Gabe Anthony who has a RN Admiral for a father and a colonial mother. The villain in this book is particularly nasty. And I especially liked the dramatic scene in the gaol.

Disclosure: I want to add that I assisted this author in proofing the manuscript and editing some technical details. I was strictly a volunteer with no payment – only a complimentary copy in exchange. It was an interesting experience… my first in such an endeavor. However, the story is completely the author’s. I was just happy to help in a very small way. If you noticed my generally positive comments about the previous novels, I feel that this book also deserves merit for its content.
