For those interested in William Bligh, saw this in the US Naval Institute Press Catalog (book out in March 2007):

Captain Bligh's Second Chance

It's Lt. George Tobin's first hand account of the second breadfruit mission.

....that sounds a good one; hope it becomes available here but thankfully most things are global these days.

According to the Amazon UK site, it's published by Chatham and also available in March.

Another Cochrane book that popped up in email from Amazon:

Cochrane in the Pacific: Fortune and Freedom in Spanish America

Wonder if there's any mention of BHall in there? ;)

For those interested in medicine of the era.

"British Military and Naval Medicine, 1600-1830" by Geoffrey Hudson (Click Here)

"Maritime Quarantine, The British Experience, c. 1650-1900" by John Booker (Click Here)

Both are a little pricy!

For anyone interested in the scientific side of the Royal Navy, this book looks promising:

Tides of History: Ocean Science and Her Majesty's Navy by Michael S. Reidy

.... indeed, it does sound a good one to have. I didn't care overly much for the one by Adams. I wonder if this one adds anything new.

This one, The Seaforth Bibliography, looks to be a useful addition to the book shelf of the AoS enthusiast.

In a newsletter I had from Pen & Sword, it states that Seaforth is a "new maritime book publisher". They have a new website "coming soon".

Post Basil Hall and S America
Susan!

All my books are based on original sources (including in Spanish and Portugeuse which I have the good fortune to speak).

In my 'Cochrane in the Pacific: Fortune and Freedom in Spanish America' Basil Hall's books and despatches are an important, and quoted, source.
