Michael Aye: "The Reaper"

"Reaper" is an 50 gun frigate creating havoc in the Caribbean as a pirate. Commanded by a french officer, she heads a group of pirate vessels that yield no quarter and leave no witnesses.

Opposing her is a small squadron commanded by Lord Gilbert Anthony. Anthony is joined by his newly revealed half-brother, Gabe. Gabe brings along his mystical maternal uncle, Dagan. Dagan might be part enchanter and part soothsayer. Either way, his presence adds an unusual dimension to the normal British navy tale. It is set in the 1775-1776 period leading up to the War of American Independence as background.

Aye seems to do a creditable job in his first novel. It has a good pace and decent story. I would hope that Aye will add some more descriptions in the future as he continues to evolve his characters. I will certainly read the second book in the "Fighting Anthonys" series.

This came out last year but I am just now getting around to reading it. Has anyone else tried this?
