Post Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival 2011
Here is my annual post announcing the GY Maritime Festival for this year on 10th and 11th September.

Interesting to read that the Oosterschelde will be attending and that tickets can be booked to sale on her from 18th April. Details on this page.

The Maritime Festival coincides with Heritage Weekend and included is Nelson's Pillar and the old naval hospital.

Thanks, Mary. A cheery set of photographs. However, couldn't they have found someone less unlikely-looking to dress up as Nelson? He looks as though he had been in his brandy barrel for 206 years, and was being helped along by Emma! After all, Nelson was only about 47 when he died. I can't see Emma H (or any other woman) finding the Methusela-like bloke very attractive.

Hope you enjoyed the Festival. Good to see some shanty groups there. Sorry I missed it.

Martin

 The same chap has been "Nelson" for as many years as we've been attending, and, yes, I agree with you. On Sunday he was on his own and I overheard someone asking him where "Emma" was, and it amused me to hear him say that she'd "had to go to work"

Yes, we did enjoy it, and particularly, by staying in Yarmouth overnight, we had the pleasure of watching the Oosterschelde, under sail, at sea on Saturday evening.

Incidentally, the Sheringham Shantymen were particularly good to hear.
