Post Life in Gibraltar


This not connected with the navy, but nonetheless, I found it interesting for a bit of background information about life on Gibraltar, especially for two nations at war.

The Times, September 10th, 1805:

" ... GIBRALTAR, Aug.8.... There was a second horse-race this evening on the neutral ground; the horses were, as usual, rode by Officers of the garrison, but it was not near so numerously attended by the Spanish Officers as the brilliant race on the 2nd when the Spanish Commander in Chief and all his suite were present. It is a curious scene, to see so many Officers of two hostile Powers, from the garrison and the Spanish camp, meeting on such an occasion, with the utmost cordiality and good humour. ......"
