Post Gull Lightship
Slightly after our time period but I thought this image of the Gull Lightship was interesting. Further searches led to this site

I've read about lightships but had no clue as to what they looked like.

It's very sad that the Gull is in such bad shape. I hope they can get the funding to restore her.

Hello Susan

Landmark mast of Gull lightship removed.
The mast of the wrecked Gull lightship at the Grays riverside was removed this week 21 May 2009
The history of the lightship dates back to around 1860 it is no 38 on the Trinity House Ancients list.thought to be the second oldest surviving lightship in the world
After serving at many places from Humberside to the Goodwin Sands, the ship was rammed & sunk on 18 March 1929 by the City of York, resulting in the death of Captain Williams of the lightship.
It was repaired & refitted before being withdrawn from service & moored at Gorleston.
In 1947 it was bought for £750 by Thurrock Yacht Club & towed to Grays
to become the clubs headquarters.
Last used in 1971
