Post Naval/fighting Instructions

The Times, December 5th, 1788:

" .... A compleat revision is ordered by the Admiralty-Board to be made of the naval instructions, copies of which are given to every commission and warrant officer on his entering the Navy. The sailing and fighting instructions to the several officers are also to be reivsed. The two commissioners of the board, who are Admirals of the Navy, are to be reviewers. The intention is to avoid all future evils in respect to duty on board ships in commission, whether on home or foreign stations. These are ultimately to be allowed by the board; and when signed by the President, Copies will be struck-off, and sent to every officer of the Navy now on the half-pay list. ....."
