I have always been an armchair historian...of sorts. Although I started some 30 years ago (at age 10) with an interest in the grand land battles throughout history, I have...in the last five years...developed an interest in naval warfare. I imagine that many here at this board will have more expertise in the naval nominclature, so I may ask a few idiotic sounding questions from time to time. In fact, I'm still working on master leeward and windward. But, I do know larboard (port, left) and starboard (right). :D

Hi Phil!

Welcome to the SN Forum!

We're all here to learn from each other, so please don't hesitate to post and ask questions. There's so much information out there! I believe everyone will agree that "the more we know, the more we find out what we don't know."

Hello Sirs and Ladies,

I am Manuel and 13 vears old (I know I'm very young, but I'm very interested in the Royal navy from 1793 till 1815).
I come from Germany and hope you can understand my English for Wannabes. It is not very well

I play basketball and read a lot of books about Nelson and the RN.
I bought Nelson's Navy written by Brian Lavery yesterday and I love it.

So I hope you could follow my short introduction.

Faithfully William

Welcome, William. I welcome your youthful enthusiasm.

P.S. I only ever learnt conversational German, and admire your language skills.

Hello,
I'm Grace and I've chatted with Susan at Live Journal, always pestering her lots of questions, and now I'm finally breaking down and joining this forum so I can pester a wider group of people with my questions. :D

Oh, and let's see, about me:
I'm 28, live in North Carolina USA, have lived a few years in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and although I'm not a HUGE AoS enthusiast, I keep finding myself drawn to sea stories and such like. Relating to ships or island life or fishing boats or lighthouses.

And I love the Scottish isles (Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland, etc.)

And I love opera, and the opera Billy Budd by Benjamin Britten (after the Herman Melville novella) was what first got me interested in AoS.

Yes he does. 8) Or at least he went to college here. Is he from NC originally? Are you a fan of him then?

Thanks for the welcome!

Oh yeah, Jordan comes from Brooklyn, New York, but he growed up in Wilmington and went to Laney Highschool.

I am a great fan of Michael Jordan, he's my rolemodel, because I play basketball too. I've got a poster of him on my wall.

He dunked one time from the zone-line in the basket...
