The Times, December 3rd, 1798

" ... Some time since the Arethusa, of 38 guns, anchored in Havre Roads, and sent a flag of truce with some French prisoners to that port. The boat having been allowed to approach within half point-blank shot, was fired on by the batteries, and several of the oars broken by a heavy discharge of grape-shot. Captain Wolley has written to the Directory, and to the Commandant at Havre, reprobating such conduct. Had their object been to prevent the approach of the boat, it might have been accomplished by firing a single shot a-head. ...."
