The Times, November 8th, 1790:

" ... PORTSMOUTH, November 5 .... On account of the intelligence of peace being received this morning, orders were immediately issued to the Dock, Victualling Office, and Gun Wharf, to stop the equipment of the ships now fitting out; in consequence of which, great quantities of stores that had been shipped the preceding evening were again relanded, and the shipwrights in the Dock ordered to work only single tides. ......"
