From The Times, January 3rd, 1785:

" ... The King of Spain is enlarging the dock-yard at Cadiz, under the direction of a very able French engineer; they are for this purpose defending the channel opposite the Real del Puntas; five ships of the line are now building there; all the slips being full, the intended addition will give them two more slips for building capital ships. All this is said to be done at the instance of the French, who leave no means untried, to make the naval force of the House of Bourbon equal, if possible to all the other powers of Europe. ....."
