Post Billy Budd
Woo! Just got an email from Amazon.com which said that one of my favorite AoS movies Billy Budd is going to be out on DVD in March. Finally! This is very good news to me because my VCR ate my tape of the movie.

I'd love to see it as, shame to admit , I've never seen it.

I was looking at Amazon.co.uk. The one shown here is, presumably, the opera? Help and clarification need, pretty please. :)

Yes, that's the opera. Did you ever get around to listening to it? "Toplights down you swabs!"

....now, isn't it passing strange! I was listening to it as I typed my query about the DVD. ;)

I always smile when I listen to the bit where Captain Vere asks the first luff and master to have a glass of wine with him and they're grumbling about the French ;)

After a bit of keen bidding, I secured a copy from Ebay, and watched it today....very good, very moving; I enjoyed it tremendously.

Just recorded the movie from TV and decided to reread the book too (after many years). I suspect that when I first read the book and watched the movie, I understood little of the times during and just after the Great Mutiny. I'm watching the movie and reading the book in concert. Melville's prose is powerful and the screen play and acting are awesome. Any special points I should pay particular attention to?
