The Times January 7th, 1805:

” ....... A letter from an Officer belonging to our squadron off Ferol, dated the 21st ult. says: ‘A Midshipman and two seamen, belonging to the Northumberland, were yesterday detained by a guard of Spanish soldiers, as they were walking in the fields near Ferrol. Admiral Cochrane immediately sent in a a flag of truce, and there were released. We no longer go ashore; and when our flags of truce enter the harbour, gun vessels are stationed alongside of them. One of our boats was fired at a few days ago, as she was trowling but an apology was made, as it was supposed she was employed in taking soundings.’ .....”
