I know that it is not really within the time period of this forum, but some members might want to hear an interesting 45 minute discussion of the Spanish Armada. It was broadcast on BBC Radio 4, on Thursday 7th October, chaired by Melvyn Bragg (Lord Bragg of Wigton) as one of his regular "In Our Time" discussions. The events around the Armada, some considerations of the strategies, and the influence on Anglo-Spanish relations were discussed by Dr Diane Purkiss (Keble College Oxford), Professor Mia Rodriguez-Salgado (London School of Economics) and Dr Nicholas Rodger (All Souls College, Oxford). I thought that all the participants were very well informed and it was well worth listening to. I had not been aware that the outcome was such a "close run thing".

I believe that these BBC radio broadcasts can be listened to via the BBC iplayer facility almost anywhere, though one may have to download the iplayer software as well as having Flash Player installed. The BBC television programmes on iplayer appear not to be accessible outside the UK.
